We will have an invited talk by Prof. Jose Neira, University of Zaragoza, Spain. The abstract of the talk is given below;

Title: Is SLAM solved? Open problems in Simultaneous Localization and Mapping

In this talk I will summarize the work that my group has carried out in the development of Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) systems for mapping indoor and outdoor environments with a hand-held camera as the only sensor. I will describe the fundamental algorithms that we have developed to deal with issues such as large-scale and data association, their possibilities, limitations and open issues, and illustrate them with experiments carried out in Zaragoza, Oxford, London (in collaboration with Oxford University and Imperial College London), Sydney (in collaboration with the University of Sydney), and in Milan, as part of the European RAWSEEDS project.

Speaker Short Bio:
Jose Neira is full professor at the Computer Science and Systems Engineering dept., Universidad de Zaragoza, Spain. He has published 2 books, 18 journal papers and 35 conference papers on the subject of environment modeling for autonomous robots. His work has received close to 4,000 citations according to Google Scholar. Jose currently serves as Editor in the Conference Editorial Board of the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA), and of the IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS) and has been involved in the organization of many other scientific events, including Robotics: Science and System (RSS), the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI), and the Conference on Artificial Intelligence of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI). Jose has served as associate editor for the IEEE Transactions on Robotics, and has been invited editor for Robotics and Autonomous Systems, the Journal of Field Robotics, Autonomous Robots, and the IEEE Transactions on Robotics.
